High Security Locks in Woodbridge

A colleague showed you a video of a lock being opened with a bump key in a few seconds. Then you went home and noticed your own deadbolt is the same style, bought at a hardware store a decade ago.

High Security Locks

In plain words

This service suits anyone who wants to stop wondering. Homeowners who have inherited unknown keys with a house, landlords who want one controlled key system across units, and businesses protecting stock, records or medication all ask for it. The locksmith explains the choices in plain terms, from a graded deadbolt with a patented cylinder up to laboratory-rated cylinders and heavy commercial lock bodies, and helps you decide which doors deserve which level. Then the work is done cleanly, every key is tested in every lock, and you leave with the documents that let you control future keys.

Sound familiar?

After the attempted break-in the police officer pointed at your door and said the strike plate was held by two short screws. Nobody got in, but you have looked at that door differently every evening since.

How the visit goes

Woodbridge

How the visit goes

  1. Who holds keys and who should

For a business or a rental, the locksmith asks to see the key list, or helps you start one. Which keys exist, who carries them, which doors they open, and what happens when someone leaves. This is where the case for a patented or restricted key system becomes clear, because the system replaces guesswork with a register: every key numbered, every order authorised by a named person, and no blanks available outside the locksmith who manages it. The locksmith also asks how many people need to reach each area so the keying plan reflects the way the building actually runs.

  2. Keying several doors sensibly

When more than one door is upgraded, the locksmith plans the keying before pinning anything. A home usually wants every exterior door on one key. A business often wants staff keys that open the front and their own area, and one manager key that opens everything, arranged as a small master system on the same patented keyway. Cylinders are pinned on the bench, labelled and fitted door by door, and each key is checked against the doors it should open and, just as carefully, the doors it should not. The written key schedule is part of the handover.

  3. Proof for insurers, landlords and tenants

You leave with a written record of what was fitted: the cylinder type and its rating, the deadbolt grade, the strike and screws installed, and the key system registration. Insurers sometimes ask for this when a policy specifies stronger hardware, landlords keep it in the property file, and tenants have something to hand back at move-out. It also helps the next locksmith, who can see at a glance what keyway and format the doors carry. Keep the invoice and the key control documents together; they are the paperwork side of a physical upgrade.

What affects the quote

Same fees day, night or weekend

  1. 1Master keying

Arranging staff keys, area keys and a manager key on one system takes bench time to plan and pin, and the more levels you want, the more careful that planning is.

  2. 2Mortise and older doors

An existing mortise pocket, a thick slab door or an unusual backset can mean a specific cylinder or an adapted preparation, which takes longer than a standard bore.

  3. 3Number of doors

Each door gets its own cylinder or lock, strike work and testing. Several doors on one keyway share the setup cost of the key system but add hardware and time per opening.

High Security Locks: questions

Why does the locksmith care so much about the strike plate?

Because that is where a kicked door fails. The bolt is strong, but it sits in a pocket in the jamb held by a thin plate and short screws, and a boot splits the wood around it. A reinforced strike or box strike fastened with three-inch screws into the wall framing spreads the blow along the frame. It is the least visible part of the upgrade and often the one that does the most.

What is bumping, and does this stop it?

Bumping uses a specially cut key that is struck while under light turning pressure, bouncing the pins to the shear line for an instant so an ordinary cylinder opens. It works on many standard pin tumblers. A high security cylinder needs its sidebar released by separately positioned finger or rotating pins at the same moment, and a bump key cannot set those, so the plug stays locked. It is one of the clearest advantages of the upgrade.

Can all my doors be on one key?

Yes, and most homes ask for exactly that. Every exterior cylinder is pinned to the same combination so one controlled key opens the front, back, side and garage entry. A gate or shed padlock on the same keyway can join it. For businesses, the same keyway can carry a small master system where staff keys open only their areas and a manager key opens everything. The keying plan is agreed before any pinning is done.

Every lock service we provide in Woodbridge starts with the same first step, which is looking at the door properly before deciding anything. The individual pages below explain what that look involves for each job, how the work is carried out, and what to expect from the hardware afterwards.
